In the season of summer holidays on the Costa Blanca, Benidorm , Calpe and Torrevieja are the most popular among tourists, however this year Altea has all chances to join them. This small and cozy town with a population of 22 thousand people, located in the neighborhood of the bustling Benidorm, has long been considered a place for recreation of bohemia and representatives of creative professions, but ordinary tourists will find in it a lot of interesting and informative.
First of all, these are walks in the old city with its narrow cobblestone streets, on which there are white houses, like those not found on the whole coast. In the summer, music often plays in the center, artists perform, although the main events that attract both local residents and guests of Altea occur on June 23 and on the night of the second Saturday of August. In the first case, as well as on the whole coastline, they will celebrate the holiday of fire Hogueras, and on August 11 there will be a pyrotechnic show Castell d’Olla (Fire Castle), when over the sea you can see a lot of fireworks under musical accompaniment.
For fans of outdoor activities and walking in nature, there are several options for hanging out. It is an ascent to the mountain range of Sierra Bernia, a visit to the Sierra Elada Nature Park, as well as water sports. In Altea are just three marine sports clubs offering classes to their liking – from kayaking to diving. Finally, lovers of beach holidays will be pleasantly surprised by the silence and lack of crowding on local beaches, some of which are pebbly. Two of them, Galera-Solsida and Barra Grande, are intended for nudists, and the first is allowed to bring dogs.
