The settlement of Guadalupe in the province of Cáceres became the second most populated place in Extremadura after Trujillo, joining the “most beautiful villages of Spain” network.
Guadalupe will note the inclusion in the prestigious list, which unites under the sign of quality settlements of less than 15 thousand people, with festive events on June 9. They will begin at 22:00 on the square of Santa Maria de Guadalupe. There will also be a grand opening of the sign with the logo of the Association of the most beautiful villages, which will greet guests at the entrance to the village. In addition, a concert with sarsuel and performances of opera singers and fire-shows is planned.
The association notes the rich cultural, natural and artistic heritage of the town. In Guadalupe one of the monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage is located – the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Guadalupe, which was awarded an honorary international status in 1993. Collections of local museums include the works of El Greco, Juan de Flandes, Zurbaran and Goya. Guadalupe is also a part of the UNESCO Wiluercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark.
In total, at the moment the list of the most beautiful Spanish villages includes 68 settlements. In 2018 it was joined by 11 towns and villages: Segura de la Sierra (Jaen), Mondonyado (Lugo), Ledesma (Salamanca), Briones (Rioja), Lerma (Burgos), Saar (Cadiz), Bubión (Granada ), Almonaster-la-Real ( Huelva ), Mirambel (Teruel), Guadalupe (Cáceres) and Castro-Caldelas (Ourense).
